Since 1907 and the Golden Age of America's Brewing Industry, The Dixie Brewery has been a New Orleans' landmark. Dixie Brewery is the last remaining survivor of New Orleans' once flourishing Brewing Industry. Through the huge antique iron gates of the Dixie Brewhouse, its nearly century old brewing traditions continue. Coppers and original cypresswood tanks continue to be used as part of Dixie's traditional brewing process. This meticulous, time-honored brewing process is the essence of Dixie Brewery's proud southern tradition. Dixie Lager, Dixie Jazz, and its new specialty beers, Blackened Voodoo and Crimson Voodoo, are each characteristic of the many charms of New Orleans and the southern way of life. Much more than just a good brewery, like great New Orleans' jazz, Mardi Gras, and Cajun cooking, Dixie Brewing Company is true Southern culture.

1) Dixie Blackened Voodoo

Dixie Blackened Voodoo is brewed using an exclusive blend of three big, dark-roasted barley malts, a heavy-handed hopping of Mt. Hood and Cascade, then slow, slow, cold lagered. The result is Voodoo... dark, mysterious, and richly flavorful, maybe even a bit on the edge for some.

Pours deep, dark brown. Very dark tan head with a marvelous lace.


Aroma of toffee, molasses and roasty malt. 
Tastes of toffee, caramel and molasses in the beginning and middle. Roasty-burnt malts in the finish.

Rich and smooth mouthfeel that coats the mouth.


Very drinkable brew, very smooth, even on a hot summer night.

2) Dixie Crimson Voodo

Dixie Crimson Voodoo is a savory red ale in the tradition of its big, dark sister. Blackened Voodoo. Crimson Voodoo is 100% all-barley malt, roasted red-brown, flavorful and well-balanced, with a refined Mt. Hood and Cascade hops finish. True to the spirits of New Orleans, let Crimson Voodoo put a little flavor in what ales you.

Dixie Crimson Voodoo Tasting Notes
The color is a cross between melted caramel and cranberry with a splash of orange/pineapple. It’s dark and cloudy with a small head.

Lace slides around in the glass much like the fog over the bayou; a little ghostly. 


The aroma has a dreamy malt sent with accents of vanilla, toffee, and sweet cotton candy. 
Taste starts with mild coffee, malt easing you in to it, then mixes it up with some fruity and floral base and ends with some sweetness and finishes with a hint of hop note of pine. 


The mouth feel is light and minimal carbonation. It is light and smooth.

3) Dixie Jazz Amber Light

Dixie Jazz Amber Light is the essence of American light beers. Using a specially formulated brewing process created by Dr. Joseph Owades, the Father of Light Beer, Dixie Jazz is low in calories (92.5), low in carbohydrates (3.1g), yet rich and amber in flavor and color. Enjoy all the great, lively flavors of New Orleans in a great, light beer...Dixie Jazz.

Dixie Jazz Amber Light Tasting Notes
The beer pours a very clear, bright orange hue with moderate-heavy carbonation and slight head. 


The nose is very fruity with sweet caramel, apple cider, and oranges. 

The flavor is very sweet overall, honey, melons, applesauce and cinnamon that combines with the sweet caramel to produce a spicy and fruity apple cider like spicing for a finish. 


The mouthful is moderate, somewhat creamy with a nice caramel backing. 


Overall, a very sweet, fruity beer with some citrus and lots of carbonation.

4) Dixie Lagger

Dixie Lager is an American icon. Brewed all-naturally today as it was first brewed in 1907, Dixie Lager uses lightly roasted two-row barley malts and rice. The result is a crisp and flavorful beer with a mild Cascade hop finish. A century of New Orleans' brewing tradition lives today in every bottle and keg of Dixie Lager.

Dixie Lager Tasting Notes
Has a bright, lager-yellow with a finger of foamy head. Tiny bubbles. The head separates it from other lagers.


The smell is a pleasant pale aroma, almost wheaty. Not the same as that metallic lager smell with cereal-grain adjuncts. 
Sweet and crisp.

 A touch of bitterness, nicely balanced with the slightly wheaty sweet finish. An exceptional light lager. 

Feels nice, creamy and bubbly. Overall, this is sweet and delicious. 
It's what all American lagers should be; bursting with bright flavor.
